Patients with mental health conditions have increasing morbidity and mortality globally leading to an increasing life expectancy gap. Psychotropic weight gain and metabolic syndrome significantly contributes to this, impacting cardiometabolic health, mental health stability and patient’s willingness to adhere to treatment.
Marlene will examine the phenomenon of antipsychotic induced hunger, metabolic dysregulation and psychotropic weight gain and discuss anti-obesity medications that can be used to counteract this. Using real world evidence and examples, she will outline practical strategies on how to use these medications in General Practice.
