Maria Nunez-Salces
Maria is a PhD student supervised by Prof Amanda Page in the Vagal Afferent Research Group at the University of Adelaide. She is a nutritionist and food scientist, and her research interest is to understand how food components interact with the gastrointestinal tract at a molecular level. For her PhD studies she is investigating the role of gastrointestinal nutrient chemosensors in the secretion of ghrelin. This gastric hormone has an essential role in the regulation of physiological responses, such as energy balance and glycaemia. The outcomes of this project will provide novel insights into the mechanisms involved in the secretion of ghrelin, and define potential targets for modulation of physiological responses associated with this hormone.
