Louise K Metcalfe
I am currently a PhD student at the University of New South Wales, supervised by Nigel Turner in the Department of Pharmacology. My project focusses mainly on establishing the physiological, metabolic phenotype of a novel knock-in mouse model, which looks at the effects of a gene variant which was found in human studies to dramatically increase obesity risk while reducing diabetes risk. I am also interested more broadly in the contexts of insulin resistance, lipotoxicity, and hepatic molecular signalling pathways, including particularly the role played by glucagon in the liver.
